Heat pump repair

Heat pumps are common in Fort Mill because they heat efficiently through most of our winter. The trouble usually shows up on the coldest nights. A heat pump that's low on refrigerant, has a failing reversing valve or defrost control, or has a dirty outdoor coil will run constantly and lean on its backup electric heat strips, and that's when power bills spike.

  • Runs nonstop but the house won't warm up
  • Outdoor unit stays iced over
  • “Aux” or “Emergency heat” on the thermostat comes on often
  • Loud grinding, rattling, or squealing from either unit

Furnace repair

Gas furnaces sit idle all summer, so problems tend to show up the first time you turn the heat on. Dirty flame sensors, worn hot-surface igniters, failing inducer motors, and clogged filters are common causes of no-heat calls.

  • Furnace starts, then shuts down after a few seconds
  • Blower runs but the air isn't warm
  • Burning smell that doesn't go away after the first run of the season
  • Frequent cycling or uneven heat from room to room

Safety first: if you smell gas, leave the house and call your gas utility or 911 from outside before calling us.

Heating repair questions

My heat pump is blowing cool air in winter. Is it broken?

Not necessarily. Heat pump air often feels cooler than furnace air, and a heat pump also runs short defrost cycles that can briefly blow cooler air. If it runs nonstop, can't reach the set temperature, or the outdoor unit is covered in ice that won't clear, call us.

Why does my furnace start and then shut off?

A dirty flame sensor, a failing igniter, a clogged filter, or a venting or safety-control problem can all cause it. Safety controls shut the furnace down on purpose, so have a technician find the cause.

Do you repair boilers?

Yes. We work on furnaces, heat pumps, and boilers.
